Dear Self,

The first thing I thought was :What am I doing?
It was crazy. They would never let me join, not with the Silver girl hunting me.
She could be here right now.
I quickly froze, the hot chocolate slopping out of its cup because the hand that held it was shaking violently. My eyes darted around me, quick as a trapped rabbits heart beat.
She's not here, calm down.
I clenched the hot chocolate until my knuckles turned white, to stop the shaking. I then heaved a quiet sigh, and continued onwards.
I was on a trail made of gravel and dirt. Pine trees clung to the sides of the path, thickening into a forest. I tried not to imagine someone weaving between the trees, watching me...
The path started to slope upwards, and the pine needles started to join the gravel and dirt as the path got thinner. I slipped and stumbled my way up, pausing every now and then to take a sip of hot chocolate, which was still scalding hot. My tongue felt thick with the burn. I opened my mouth a little, letting the chilly air seep into me, counteracting the heat.
After a few more minutes of walking, I felt exhausted and freezing. I had walked for nearly an hour on the flat trail, and was probably close to the same on the never-ending hill. The night chill had blanketed the forest, making me shiver.
Right on cue, the taste of rain smacked my lips, and seconds after, thunder rumbled and snarled, lightning danced and flashed, and I quickly became soaked to the bone in the sudden downpour.
The smell of damp pine needles was becoming sickeningly overwhelming. I drained the last of my hot chocolate in an attempt to distract myself. The plastic cup was slippery and bothersome to my hands, so I stuffed it into my jacket pocket, slipping on the slick pine needles a few times.
I was just about to give up when I stepped onto the top of the hill. Stunned and suddenly sick to the stomach with anxiety, I squinted through the sharp raindrops and thick fog to see if I could spot the church where the Moon Clan resided.
I saw it. It made my heart race.
Looming over the hill a good distance away, was a shadowy church, surrounded by a tall, iron-gate fence.
But should I go in? Doubt and panic flooded inside me, powered by fear. What if they didn't want me? What if they chased me out or killed me. I had no idea what these people were like. It was stupid of me to even come here.
Sighing in defeat, I turned around, letting the rain pound into my back. I lifted my head, and that's when I saw them.
A pair of beady eyes, glinting from the nearest tree. Fear swelled up inside me, but it wasn't the Silver girl-- it was worse. My thoughts were confirmed as lightning illuminated the hill for a split second. A large wolf flashed before me. I took a step back, shaking. I could practically feel its jaws ripping into me, its body crashing into mine, the feel of its fur muffling my screams, the taste of blood in my mouth... I could see the greed and anticipation in the werewolf's eyes. It licked its chops, and that was it.
I turned heel and ran like lightning to the iron gate, banging it, yelling for help because if there was one werewolf there was bound to be another and another and dozens more. The smell of wet dog licked at my nostrils. I felt like I was going to drown in my fright when the gate clicked open. The sound of homicidal claws ripping at the earth a breath behind me made me dive through the gate, hitting the watery, sloppy mud, the empty cup crunching in my pocket. The gate slammed shut behind me. I glanced back at the church. It stood behind me like a guardian angel. I stole a peek out the gate. The wolf was gone. My body thankfully sloped back and landed in the mud with a splat. I made a mud angel as I laughed manically, licking the raindrops off of my blue, mud-splattered face, my eyes closed. A few minutes later, I flicked my eyes open again.
A snow-white face contorted with fury stared down at me.
I yelped, scrambling up and backwards. I suddenly felt ridiculous. How long had she been watching? Who was she, anyway?
Without a word, she snaked her hand onto mine her grip as cold and strong as iron. Without a sound, she half guided, half dragged me across the ground, the church now seeming like a prison. Fear numbed me. I couldn't think.
What had I gotten myself into?
